The EntrePass
The EntrePass is meant for serial entrepreneurs, high-calibre innovators, or experienced investors. Unlike the Employment Pass (EP), it does not require a minimum salary or a local sponsor. However, the barrier to entry is extremely high.
Who is it NOT for?
MOM explicitly states that the EntrePass is not for businesses that are:
- Coffee shops, hawker centres, food courts.
- Bars, night clubs, karaoke lounges.
- Foot reflexology, massage parlours.
- Acupuncture, traditional chinese medicine, herbal dispensing.
- Employment agencies.
- Geomancy business.
The Core Criteria
You must meet at least ONE of the following criteria in three categories:
Category 1: Entrepreneur
- Venture Capital: Raised at least S$100,000 from a government-recognised VC or business angel.
- Incubator: Incubated by a government-recognised incubator or accelerator.
- Track Record: Established track record in founding and scaling businesses.
Category 2: Innovator
- Intellectual Property (IP): You hold an IP registered with a recognised national IP institution that delivers a competitive advantage.
- Research Collaboration: Ongoing research collaboration with an Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Singapore.
- Extraordinary Achievement: Exceptional achievements in key areas of expertise.
Category 3: Investor
- Investment Record: Good track record of investing in businesses and want to grow new or existing businesses in Singapore.
Renewal Hurdles
Getting the initial pass (valid for 1 year) is hard; renewing it is harder. Renewals require you to hit strict milestones regarding total business spending in Singapore and the number of local professionals (PMETs) hired. For example, a Year 2 renewal requires S$100,000 in total business spending and hiring at least 3 local employees (or 1 local PMET).
